battery indicator no longer updating on darter utrathin

I have a darter ultrathin which I've had fr about a year. Up until a weeks ago the battery indicator at the top right of the screen (next to the date and time) worked perfectly.

About a week ago, the battery indicator for some reason doesn't every change.I don't know if its a hardware problem, or a software problem. This is how it goes:

I'll restart my computer with the power cord plugged in.

When the desktop comes up, the indicator will say 37% charged. Since the power cord is plgged in, you'd expect that number to slowly climb, but now it just stays at 37%.

If I unplug the power cable, the indicator will stay at 37% until the battery runs out and the laptop shuts off.

Battery life doesn't seem to be affected, its just the battery indicator doesn't change as the battery charge changes.

Does anybody know what could be causing this problem?

    I already tried
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install gnome-power-manager --reinstall
    but that didn't fix anything.
