VeraCrypt compability? (Cross OS full disk encryption)

I'm wondering what's recommended full disk encryption method for external drives which are being used with Windows and Ubuntu / Linux? I used to prefer TrueCrypt, but now there's VeraCrypt which is open source. So is it possible to get vera crypt packages for Ubuntu / Debian?

    Any other thoughts about it?

    - Thank you

    Hallo,
A bit late, but i did recent migrated all my Truecrypt drives and volumes to Veracrypt.
After that i put "verascrypt" into the Ubuntu Forums searchbox and hit your topic.

Off course you did already find the site of IDRIX: https://veracrypt.codeplex.com/ the successor of the Truecrypt application.

My experience with migration from TrueCrypt to VeraCrypt:

Integrated in my home network: 4x PC: Desktops, laptops, netbook, android tablets and smartphone and Synology NAS

On desktop, laptop and netbook Ubuntu 14.04 LTS is installed.
1x TrueCrypt drive was installed on main desktop as encrypted drive.
1x TrueCrypt encrypted file was build on NAS volume

Several SATA external drives were whole drive encrypted.

I started by converting the main desktop PC container with the "volume tools" option within VeraCrypt, using the "TrueCrypt" option.
After that i continued with all my drives and volumes-/ files.
Not a single problem occours during that process.

As far as i can judge they did a splendid job and i am very happy with that.
