Internal speakers don't work / headphones and external speakers do

    Dear All!

I just got a HP 625 and put ubuntu 14.04 on it. It is quite slow so I put XFCE on it and everything works great except the sound! It works with headphones or external speakers but don't come out of the internal speakers. I checked the forums and it happened to me while playing with the alsamixer that they would suddenly work...but no way to understand why ?

Any help on this please ? thanks a lot!

    Here is my alsa-base.conf

Is alsamixer still installed on 14.04?

Try running "alsamixer" from the terminal. See if there are any options in there that is muted. Play a music on the background so that when you change settings, you'll hear the changes.

Re: Internal speakers don't work / headphones and external speakers do

    Thanks for replying.
From the terminal, Alsamixer opens on this card: HDA ATI HDMI
I need to select the other one, the HDA ATI SB and then unmute something and then, sometimes, it works fine.
I can now get sound...but if I connect headphones, I need to do this again, and so on....it looks like the automatic unmute from internal to external is wrong.

I had the same problem before. I can't remember exactly what I have done, but I just dug into the settings there and in the sound settings gui.
