I have a project I am getting into and am looking to find if VirtualBox is still the preferred VM client.

I want to set up a virtualized web server (not 100% which distro yet, depends on what the destination host is using or Ubuntu Server is probably the default) for developing a Wordpress & CiviCRM site so I can edit and fool around with it until my heart's content.

  • I don't want to go crazy with tweaks and the such.. so simple is better in this case.
  • I want to be able to take snapshots at points, before starting some significant change.
  • I want to be able to roll-back to any of the previous snapshots.
  • My machine is a Dual-core system with 4GB of RAM
  • Kudos if the snapshots can be transferred from one system to another, and between Windows and Linux.

Is VirtualBox going to be a good client, or has something else come up as a good client? I really want something simple to setup and use and not spend a lot of time tweaking and modifying.

Thanks.
