I made the same decision 3 cycles ago - since then nouveau had gotten worse for me - had to move back. I've only got intel and ATI hardware - workaround to get at least something working is to add nomodeset to the boot command line that starts with linux This gets me up with crippled resolution, 1024x768, so I can do at least something. I don't know how to try this when booting the .iso
