Exactly, how snaky are Linux systems due to the pythons in it?

While python is known as a computer language, it is the name of many specieis of commonly kept pet snakes. (Ball pythons, anthill pythons, children's pythons, etc, with ball pythons being the most popular by far.)
    I deliberately mention small pythons.
Exactly which people call this computer language "python" is not known, but ball pythons are definitely before the computer language.
Can anyone tell me why the name "python" strucks?

I'm pretty sure the particular species of python it's named after is Monty as in Monty Python's Flying Circus
