Login, get blank screen. Can login using recovery mode and terminal mode.

Dell Inspiron laptop, 5000 series model 3531

Dual boot - Windows 8.1 and 14.04 LTS

Working fine for 2 months, just got the blank screen.

Able to boot to Unity via recovery mode. Booting normally, login, blank screen, hit alt-ctl-F4 gets me to terminal/command prompt.

I'm guessing it's a video driver that got updated and is no good. According to specs, machine uses Integrated Intel HD Graphics.

Is it the video driver? If not, how to proceed? If so, how do I rollback to the previous one? Dummy me didn't make a backup as this machine is for learning Linux, nothing important on it.

    Thanks in advance.

Edit. OK, I was wrong, it's not the video drivers, it's the account. I was able to login to the guest account, no blank screen and created a new account and it works. I guess I'll copy over all the broken account files to the new one and delete the old one. Unless there's a better way?
