I need a really good video editing software

I've been using a mac and I recently got a really nice laptop (not mac) that I had to put ubuntu on. I edit videos mainly on fcp x and I absolutely love it. I've been trying to find some similar programs so I don't need to use a mac anymore but all of them don't seem good at all for what I need them for. Does anyone know of a good software for video editing?

There isn't anything that compares. Sorry. There are many different types of video editing, perhaps if you were more specific?

Also - the "alternativeto.net" website could be of help. avidemux is worth a look, but it completely depends on what you mean.

I've looked for years and still use Windows for editing video and my requirements are minimal, but still not handled by any linux editors.

I agree with TheFu. This project is under active development: http://openshot.org/

Give it a spin and tell us what it doesn't do for you.

    This?

    http://cinelerra.org/1/

Is about as close as Linux gets to pro-level vid editing. Some would disagree. I use Kino a bit then put it together in an old Premiere Pro version in Windows XP! (At least that's what I did when I was doing that sort of stuff often.)

As mentioned, and as with pro-level audio, Linux just doesn't come close to some of the Win apps available, as much as it pains me to say it. You can use bits for some things, but to do the whole project in Linux? Never happened for me. Easier to just use Windows. Unfortunately.

Re: I need a really good video editing software

I have used a combination of kino, kdenlive, open shot, to do a lot of the simpler stuff I need. I have also installed cinelerra a much more robust package. Cinelerra has a repo version in one of the deb derivative linux OS's called 'cinelerra-cv' but it is restricted in some ways compared to the full latest version you have to install from source manually. Try this link for more info http://cinelerra.org/1/ I find it has a great deal of flexibility and is closer to a prosumer type package than any of the run of the mill ones. Search with google for further info as well as there was a lot of enthusiasts posting blog info and tutorials for this newest Cinelerra I found.

Good Luck with this; I have been going through this for years now and haven't yet got an OS combination and NLE w/s package to work 100% smoothly yet ( I also need LibreOffice Base DB program to become a little more user friendly when designing search filters)

Lightworks is available for Linux. I've never tried it yet. There is a free version, or you can buy the Pro version that has additional capabilities (for monthly, yearly, or "buy outright" prices).

Let me know what you think if you do give it a try.

here is a better location to download the latest version of cinelerra NLE

    http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/...or-linux-mint/

    hope this helps

I just installed this and it initially gave a error 1 and broken package. tried the apt-get auto remove and the apt-get install -f which neither worked to help. Discovered in the error details it was trying to overwrite a file which caused the error.
I opened synaptic and removed all cinelerra then also removed the file it was trying to overwrite. Once that one was gone I used synaptic to reinstall all the cinelerra packages in synaptic and that then worked OK.

Here is a link to pdf manual http://www.google.ca/url?sa=t&rct=j&...71667212,d.aWw
There is lots of info and manuals if you just google search for cinelerra manuals

+1 for Cinelerra. A wonderful web site: http://www.g-raffa.eu/Cinelerra/HOWTO/

There are also many tutorials on Youtube. I was delighted to be able to create "the Ken Burns Effect."

Openshot is useless for me at this time. It will not open a saved project-crashes every time. Asus P7P55D-E, I5-750, 8gb ram, 1tb hdd (x2), Ubuntu 14.04_64, Mint 17, Mint 16, Windows 7 Professional (64)
