Install synaptic package-manager which will let you search in a much more detailed way, and in my opinion is hugely better than the software centre.

I have just made a search for "physics" and got masses of packages as a result, but I have no idea what it is that you're looking for.

Just now, when I Googled "Linux software for aerodynamics", I received over 60 responses.

You might give that, or similar inquiries, a try, and see what turns up that you can use.
