The first is around £25, the latter, £85 - give or take!

I bought the cheaper one and a user commented on its Amazon comments section that it worked out of the box.

The links were mailed to me by ASUS after I emailed them asking which of their cards would work.

I find that Asus is one of a very few companies that are Linux friendly.
I bought an Asus PC 1/2 year ago with Windows 8. I multiboot it with several distros without problems.
I also own an eeePC 4G Surf and maintain my b.i.l Asus HAB105 without much miseries. I cannot say about other products.
    Recommended company.

I think you meant sound/audio cards.
For the Xonar DG, you need to be using kernel 3.14 or later to get full function (mic and front headphones): https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...er/+bug/919809
User there claims Ubuntu's 14.04 kernel worked, so they probably backported it to their 3.13.x kernel
I wonder if the DGX is the same way? (since it's the PCI-e version of the DG).
