    If you install one or two additional programs from the official repos, no-one at Canonical will care, but if you change the look and feel to something different (e.g. Mint) then you need to make your own distribution with your own name.

    The argument is simple: If you do something that will alter the number and type of support questions going to Canonical, then they will care and then you should make your own distro.

    An easy way to solve the software question is when a unit is sold suggest the software you would add and ask if there is any they would like then show them both ways of installing soft ware, where to find the installed programs, and other DE's. then its a service.
    The only dumb question is the one not asked.

    An OEM installation will allow you to easily preconfigure the system before giving it away.
