    Trying to Get Ubuntu Going

Second try at my first post! I downloaded Ubuntu 14.04LTS and created a DVD boot file. Tried to install on my eight-year old Dell with XP. Had Ethernet connection during install, and looked good, but I have no Internet connection at all. I have a new .iso file (checked with MD5SUM). Question: without Internet connection, would I be better off trying to install again, or should I (with your help!) try to troubleshoot the present installation? I have a screenshot of the unsuccessful attempt to enter a command, but don't know how to include it in this post. Really want to get Ubuntu working! Thank you. Bob

    Hi, welcome to the fora.

With eight years old hardware you are better off with Lubuntu.

Installing from USB is a safer approach than CD / DVD.

Will try the USB approach. Ubuntu is installed, and the GUI works well (except for an occasional "hang" during restart). Just no internet capability. Will check out a tutorial on including a Screen shot.

You need to give us more data to work with. Simply stating "no internet capability" isn't enough, it says nothing.
What connection are you trying to use? Ethernet or WiFi? Which one doesn't work or both don't work? Anyway, hardware info is vital to start troubleshooting...

Have gone to Lubuntu. This thread can be closed, although I don't know how to do it. Thanks!

You just need to click on ''solved'' from thread tools at the top of thread.
