I have installed Lubuntu 14.04 on an IBM S50 which has an Intel ICH5 sound card (according to AlsaMixer). The master volume control (the one found on the "Volume Control" on the bottom panel) does not work. I get sound coming out, but it neither raises nor lowers the volume. I also noticed that the volume control on Audacious does not work. Going into AlsaMixer, I found out that I could control (raise/lower) volume using the "PCM" control, but not the "Master" control. How do I get the master volume control to work? It is kind of inconvenient to always run AlsaMixer just to change the volume.
