    What is " New volume"

On the left hand side I have an icon "New volume". In the user manual I could not find any information as to what it is for.
Any suggestions from where to get this information and similar basic information would be appreciated.
As you can see I am very new to Ubuntu having just downloaded version 14

    Thanks

    Stan

Re: What is " New volume"

"New volume" is a new volume, ie, an existent drive/partition that don't belongs to the Linux file system. It probably is your Windows drive if you have a dual-boot configuration.

Re: What is " New volume"

The "New volume" is a partition on your hard drive (or a removable drive, if you have one plugged in). "New volume" is its label. It must have been the default label when the partition was created.
