Hi all, I have a Samsung Galaxy SIIx. I am quite happy with it, apart from the fact that it has slowed down significantly and is crashing or stalling often. I am a Ubuntu fan and was wondering how easy it is to change to the Ubuntu for phone system (Ubuntu Edge??). Do I loose all my apps and numbers? Does it transfer all the data stored on the phone? How does it interface with gmail or other email clients? What are others experiences with Ubuntu on a smartphone? Would love to hear from you folks Acradon
Ubuntu Edge was a project that never got off the drawing board because it failed to meet the minimum funding necessary. Ubuntu for Devices is an official development for phones and tablets based upon 3 specific devices. It is still very much a development work. Please note this: Installing Ubuntu for devices deletes all data (including applications and data such as contacts, photos, and etc.) from the device. An optional procedure is provided below that backs up the Android apps and data to a local file. There is no guarantee that a restore will succeed. http://developer.ubuntu.com/start/ub...u-for-devices/ The core applications for Ubuntu phones and tablets are all community developed. The email client is still under development. How far it has progressed I cannot say as this link is somewhat old. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/CoreApps/EmailClient And then there is this http://developer.ubuntu.com/2014/05/...ades-and-more/ and note this: Dual boot is not a feature suitable for regular users. It is recommended to be installed only by developers who are comfortable with flashing devices and with their partition layout. Dual boot rewrites the Android recovery partition and those installing it should be intimately familiar with re-flashing it in case something goes wrong. Regards

It is a machine. It is more stupid than we are. It will not stop us from doing stupid things. Ubuntu user #33,200. Linux user #530,530
Thanks, I might wait until I can get a new phone and start with that straight away. I can't risk loosing any of my data at this stage. Thanks for the links I will do a bit more reading before I embark on a new Ubuntu adventure.
