Perhaps you are getting interference with the X server. Do the following:
1. Look for errors in dmesg: (open a terminal)
2. Look for errors in the system log:
Code:
less /var/log/syslog
"q" to quit.
3. Look for errors in .xsession-errors (This is where local, by-user errors are captured, as opposed to system errors)
Code:
cd
less .xsession-errors
4. Finally look for global X-server (graphics server which also controls input devices) errors.
Code:
less /var/log/Xorg.0.log
less /var/log/Xorg.1.log
Post any murine errors.
Try another mouse and see if the behavior is the same.
