That's a good thought, Frogs Hair. I'll list what I tried.
I added this line to my .profile file. I also created a similar file named .xinitrc with this line for the heck of it.
Code:
#apply gtk2.0 theme
export GTK2_RC_FILES="$HOME/.gtkrc-2.0"
I have a manually created .gtkrc-2.0 file with this line, correctly stating my theme name.
Code:
gtk-theme-name="Numix Bluish
include "/usr/share/themes/Numix Bluish/gtk-2.0/gtkrc"
I used both the QT 4 Settings app, and its QT 3 counterpart, to set my QT theme to GTK+, instead of "unknown" or "desktop setting". I restarted X by logging out and logging back in, to see if it would take affect. (Which, it didn't.)
Also looked into installing QT themes, so I could at least have a dark theme for QT-based apps, but I can't wrap my head around installing one. I'm beginning to think QT themes are specifically for skinning apps while building them.
I tried putting this into the terminal, in case the theme was not set for GTK2 apps, but this did nothing.
Code:
gconftool-2 --set --type string /desktop/gnome/interface/gtk_theme "Numix Bluish"
Lastly, I tried starting Skype with a specific GTK skin; also accomplished nothing. I tried it with an alternative theme as well, on the offchance it was Numix's fault.
Code:
GTK2_RC_FILES="/usr/share/themes/Numix Bluish/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" skype
So all of this has left me feeling rather frustrated. I simply want a global theme that's easier on my eyes while looking at the screen for long hours, but I can't understand what's making this more complicated than it has to be.
