    Angry 14.04 Wireless Disconnecting/Reconnecting Every 60 Seconds

No issues in 13.10. Did a fresh install of 14.04... Dell Inspiron N4010 laptop.

Exactly every 60 seconds, my wireless connection disconnects and immediately reconnects. I have a perfect connection for 60 seconds, then repeat. Over, and over, and over, and over.

    Where should we start?

    Thanks!

Let's start by finding out what wireless adapter/chipset you have. Do the following in a terminal window and post back the output:

    lspci | grep Network

    lsusb

    ifconfig

    iwconfig

Thanks. I'll appreciate any help I can get on this. Here are the results.

I had no issues with 13.04 and 13.10. When I decided to fresh install 14.04 for the LTS version, I initially had an issue with having no wifi after sleep, but never did anything to fix that. I always do the updates when they come in, and this issue started 5/16/14. Before that date, just the sleep issue. This one makes the system unusable, but I'd like to fix both issues.

    Thanks guru's...
    Steven

In doing a little research, that appears to be amongst the problems some have encountered. This link seems to indicate a driver issue, which the last 2 posts seem to address. There was no reply from the OP after those 2 posts so I don't know if it worked or not.

    Re: 14.04 Wireless Disconnecting/Reconnecting Every 60 Seconds

Well, doing some work on the office desktop and now that machine is doing it also with a wired connection. Wife's laptop is still running 13.10 on the same network without issue. Looks as if 14.04 is broken in a big way. Gonna try the HTPC in the bedroom later and see if that one has developed the issue as well. That is 14.04 wireless also, so if it does it, that would make it every 14.04 machine in the house having the issue with no problems on 13.10.

I'll post back in a couple hours.

    Re: 14.04 Wireless Disconnecting/Reconnecting Every 60 Seconds

    Ok, I'm puzzled.

I did an internet upgrade a few days ago (got faster speeds). Although I rebooted my router several times trying to fix this issue, I never rebooted the modem. After rebooting the modem on a whim, the problem cleared on both 14.04 machines. I'm puzzled because the 13.10 never needed a reboot, and was being used all day by my wife while the 14.04's were having the issue described???

Anyhow, I'll post back in a day or two and let you know if the issue returns. Weird.

On the side note, from the information above, can anyone tell me how to edit the .conf file of my wireless device to tell it not to sleep? I did this to the HTPC machine a while ago to fix the "no internet after sleep" symptom, but I can't remember what I did. I stumbled across the solution and can't find it again. With 14.04, my laptop has developed the same issue, and my wife's is identical... If I can get these threee machines to maintain wifi after sleeping, my life will be normal again.

    Thanks!!!

Wish I could have been of more help. I don't know about the sleep issue (do you mean hibernate?) so I'll leave that to someone who does know.

Glad you at least got it working.

You might have more luck asking this in a new thread with a descriptive title.

No worries. Thanks for trying to help. Sometimes the puzzle just puzzles itself out. The issue seems resolved, so if anyone else has this issue, a modem reboot is needed along with the router. No clue why that worked, but anywho...
