    Best way to download Music?

    I have an old desk top Dell that i installed Ubuntu years ago when it died.
    Most all the music downloads i see are windows based. I know there must be many out there who have.
    I am not looking to steal tons of music and do not own Mp3 player ect.
    So please do not come down on me Thanks.
    I had a tons of CDs stolen out the cases, and have empty cases.
    Some of witch i do not know if i will buy again. would like to listen first ect.
    Maybe toss a song or 2 on a disk
    I know when i had windows 98 {LOL} you could go to places like bearshare, limewire.
    Never really did it just bought what i wanted and some of that is now gone.
    Thanks

    You do realise that some (..) music is copyrighted and does not allow downloading without buying.
    That said, you may want to have a look at Jamendo, Soundcloud, Ektoplasm (my favorite), the Free Music Archive and many more

    Re: Best way to download Music?

    Let me say that there are bands that do some releases free on their sites and others to try sample tracks before gettiong the whole thing.
    But at this point i have no idea how that even works as the stuff is windows bases and when i try and click to install does not work with this OS Thus me posting asking
    Looks like the Ubuntu looks to be closed up and no longer lets you buy

    Hi 340six.

    Here are a couple of sources:

    Also, all music from amazon.com is DRM free now, so anything you buy there you can play in any device you want.

    All of that is available to download using the browser, except VODO which uses torrent files (you can download their using 'transmission').

    Is that what you are looking for?
    Regards.

    Yes i understand I have a vast collection of paid for CD's but some was stolen.
    So down loading paid some and putting it on a disk would be ok if the cost was less than getting whole new CD.

    Plan is to try some new music and are buy some but need to down load it to listen.
    Even the free stuff i have tried does not work.
    Thanks

    Which Ubuntu release and flavor are you using ? Which chat application ? How do you copy/paste ? Would highlight and middle click to paste work ? What does a right click on a hotlink show you ?

    Re: Best way to download Music?

    I have to see. It has been awhile. Had to find the install disk it is Ubuntu 10.04.1
    It got it from EasyLinuxCds
    I use this computer to just visit a few sites and 2 chats.
    Also It has been a longtime and know the laws have changed.
    I know in the past they had a few sites that were sued and a few legal ones where you could download and pay per song or whole album.
    But they all needed a program to download. {ie} a place that the files were kept. And they could be transfered to a CD later
    I also posted as i did not want to download a program that would mess up this computer as even though old still does what i need.
    Or Have Robert Plant or the FBI beating down my front door since I cheated him out 50 cents.
    Looks like I have Rhythmbox but can not figure it out.
    I was kinda looking for a Limewire, Bear share {sp?} i just remember the names from long ago. that would be compatible with the system i am using

    Re: Best way to download Music?

    you might try (hope I did the code tags right!)

    Code:
         sudo apt-add-repository -y "deb http://repository.spotify.com stable non-free" &&
         sudo apt-key adv --keyserver keyserver.ubuntu.com --recv-keys 94558F59 &&
         sudo apt-get update -qq &&
         sudo apt-get install spotify-client
