    Ubuntu (for Phones) in the wild!

    Riccardo Padovani writes about the Italian LoCo Team's presence at the "Fiera del Radioamatore", the biggest electronics fair in the northeastern part of Italy. He says the team was in charge of giving several workshops, the main topics being Ubuntu 14.04's new features, participating in the Ubuntu Community, and Ubuntu Touch.

    Valencia: new Theme for the Ubuntu Italy Website

    Mattia "deshack" Migliorini starts a series of posts that will follow the development of a new theme for the Ubuntu Italy website. He makes reference to using Canonical's Web Style guide and says the useful design kit meant a lot of the work had already been done.

    Svetlana Belkin: Ubuntu 14.04 Review

    Svetlana Belkin wrote two short reviews of Ubuntu 14.04, one for the desktop and one for the tablet. In her desktop review she highlights the extended battery indicator abilities, "past 100%" volume option, and live resizing of windows. For the tablet, she notes several missing features like no app uninstall facility and no volume indicator.

    Ubuntu GNOME: Planning for Ubuntu GNOME Utopic Unicorn

    Robie Basak: New in Ubuntu 14.04 LTS: PHP 5.5

    Robie Basak reminds us that Ubuntu 14.04 LTS ships with PHP 5.5, which is a significant upgrade over PHP 5.3. He explains several of the differences in PHP 5.5 between various distributions and upstream and indicates the differences appear to have affected some Ubuntu users.

    Robert Ancell writes that one of the most useful tools he uses is `https://errors.ubuntu.com/` which shows statistics for crash reports sent from users machines. Robert shows us a graph showing the crash reports received for the last six releases, noting several items of interest.

    Lubuntu Blog: PPA for LTS packages

    Rafael Laguna announces that LTS packages for Lubuntu now have a PPA at lubuntu-dev/staging for fixes pending in Lubuntu 14.04 and describes how to enable this PPA on your system.

    Alejandra Obregon reports on a Juju sprint that was recently held in Las Vegas. She illustrates her report with photographs to show that there were "plenty of distractions within reach" but that a large amount of work was also done, listing the items covered.

    Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32-bit vs. 64-bit Performance

    Michael Larabel of Phoronix writes about the performance advantages to 64-bit Ubuntu Linux versus 32-bit Ubuntu on a modern Intel laptop. He says "I continue to be flabbergasted by the number of people still asking this question when nearly all modern x86 Intel/AMD hardware fully supports x86_64 and it generally means much better performance."

    Testing Ubuntu, Debian and LMDE on my new notebook

    J A Watson of ZDNet writes about his experience installing Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, Linux Mint Debian Edition and Debian testing (jessie) on a recently purchased Acer V5-131. He explains the (extremely simple) process of configuring UEFI boot when installing Ubuntu, concluding "Once again I went through everything I could think of to test, and once again everything worked. It's so nice to be bored!"

    Vixtel Unity Tries To Be An Android + Ubuntu Tablet

    Michael Larabel of Phoronix takes a brief look at the Vixtel Unity, an Australian attempt to ship a tablet loaded with Ubuntu and Android. Michael says that he doesn't have a product to test, so he refers his readers to the Vixtel Unity website for further information.
