    Outdated Wikis

I had just seen coffecats "Announcement" and that brought to mind the number of ubuntu wikis that are not being maintained. For example the Mir Installing Wiki,

    https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Mir/Installing

which I updated to current. We are told in testing and development that Mir will be a big item this release and yet the original creators of the Wiki do not even keep it updated. How can we test it if the code is not updated or correct? Then, depending to be corrected somewhere else, it leaves a fragmented database that could cause confusion in testers and generally deter testers from trying to test it.

    Regards..

What's that got to do with the forum?

What announcement have you seen - because there are no new ones.

    1. I put that message here in this forum because I thought it the best place to be.

    2. There was a yellow banner announcment about "malicious code" yesyerday (dated back July 2012)that scolded us about using malicious code. It was in Announcements <absolute begginers> section. It's gone now. I thought it kind of odd. It was posted by Coffeecat. Has the forum been compromised? I'm just asking.

I had it saved in my history. No yellow banner though. I was going to take a snapshot of it because I thought it was sort of odd but I didn't.

    @ventrical,

    1. The forum has not been compromised - to our knowledge.
    2. The malicious code announcement in its current form has been there since July 2013 and does not come and go.
    3. We put the announcement only in the Beginners' Section so as not to have it spam the whole forum. If you did not see it on one occasion, then you must have been in a sub-forum other than Beginners.
    4. The announcement replaces one originally put up by jdong when he was an admin in November 2007. My contribution was fairly modest, merely editing the original based on input from the current forum staff.

Please do not PM me about your forum account unless you have been asked to. The correct place to contact an admin about your account is here.

    Thank you.

Now.. there was a YELLOW BANNER yesterday at the top of the forums directing us to that announcment! It is gone now but it was there.

    Re: Outdated Wikis

Please see the screen shot. On top of the regular announcement (in blue fonts) there was a yellow banner (with black fonts) warning us about malicious code and when I clicked it ,it forwarded me to the announcement page. I did not put it there nor do I know how it got there. I am just reporting in. Unfortunately I did not take a screenshot of it .

    It went something like this:

ANOUNCEMENT: Warning about Malicious Code by coffeecat

and when I clicked 'by coffeecat' it forwarded me to that page.

    regards..

Maybe somebody just playing with me lol

    This ?
It's always been there in ABT since the first announcement.

Yes .. that's exactly it. But I wasn't in Absolute Begginers Section. I was in Ubuntu Development Release!

    Thanks for finding that.

    Re: Outdated Wikis

The other most likely scenario is that, somehow, I inadvertently clicked that section on but I rarely ever visit there and my history tells me that I jumped from development right into ABT. I usually have several tabs open. I would assume it is something I did.

    I'm dropping this.

    My aplogies
