No sound to speakers after upgrade to 14.04LTS

Upgraded from 12.04 to 14.04 and now I do not have the computer speakers as a choice for audio output. I have earphone output and HDMI output but no internal speaker output. When I connect my Bluetooth dongle and connect, I can get audio to my BT speakers. I just don't have the choice of internal speakers. This is on my Acer One 725 netbook.

I made no changes but now I have the computer internal speakers and the HDMI out, but now, no earphone jack output. Why is it changing aound like this? I thought that these output types would persist once available. New question is how to get one when it is not displayed, since the outputs seem to "come and go" at will?

have you installed pavucontrol if not try that because it gives you better configuration options

Thanks fr the headsup. I do and did have pavucontrol installed. an internet search (on launchpad) provided this message:

Maybe one of those 22 new bugs in one bothering my system?

pavucontrol seems to be working ok for me,have you looked in configuration tab of pavucontrol to see what its got in there
