Re: Can see wifi network, can't connect on Ubuntu 12.04

Sorry I have not had much time to research your issue and reply, when I first posted I did but by the time you posted back I was out of town on business.

You have a bug, lets install the driver from the backports and see if it fixes it.

Go here http://drvbp1.linux-foundation.org/~...tml/backports/ and download the newest driver to your computer then place the file on your desktop and right click and extract here.

Then compile the driver using the directions below.
    Code:
    cd ~/Desktop/backports-3.15-rc1-1
    make defconfig-ath5k
    make
    sudo make install
    sudo modprobe -rv ath5k
    sudo modprobe -v ath5k
When you have an upgrade to the kernel you will need to do:
    Code:
    cd ~/Desktop/backports-3.15-rc1-1
    make clean
    make defconfig-ath5k
    make
    sudo make install
    sudo modprobe -rv ath5k
    sudo modprobe -v ath5k
    Thanks

Re: Can see wifi network, can't connect on Ubuntu 12.04

While waiting for a solution to this, I upgraded the computer having this problem to Ubuntu 14.04. Before I proceed with installing the backports driver, would having 14.04 instead of 12.04 (I still have the same problem of failing to connect to my network) change any of your advice or require me to run that wireless script again?

In the meantime, Hadaka, here is the result of the commands you requested I run:

    Code:
    cat /etc/default/crda
    # Set REGDOMAIN to a ISO/IEC 3166-1 alpha2 country code so that iw(8) may set
    # the initial regulatory domain setting for IEEE 802.11 devices which operate
    # on this system.
    #
    # Governments assert the right to regulate usage of radio spectrum within
    # their respective territories so make sure you select a ISO/IEC 3166-1 alpha2
    # country code suitable for your location or you may infringe on local
    # legislature. See `/usr/share/zoneinfo/zone.tab' for a table of timezone
    # descriptions containing ISO/IEC 3166-1 alpha2 country codes.

Re: Can see wifi network, can't connect on Ubuntu 12.04

I suggest running a new, experimental version of the wireless_script this time : http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=13024222

It covers some extra info that we often have to ask separately while troubleshooting. Having all that info in one place has its advantages.

Re: Can see wifi network, can't connect on Ubuntu 12.04

I'm about to run the new script, because I am still failing to connect even with my new country code set, but before I do, the result of iw reg set is now the following. Does this look correct Hadaka?:

    Code:
    country US:
        (2402 - 2472 @ 40), (3, 27)
        (5170 - 5250 @ 40), (3, 17)
        (5250 - 5330 @ 40), (3, 20), DFS
        (5490 - 5600 @ 40), (3, 20), DFS
        (5650 - 5710 @ 40), (3, 20), DFS
        (5735 - 5835 @ 40), (3, 30)
        (57240 - 63720 @ 2160), (N/A, 40)

Here are the results of the experimental script I was asked to run, wrapped in code tags as instructed. The SSID of my wireless network is "keiththeone":

Re: Can see wifi network, can't connect on Ubuntu 12.04

I managed to solve this problem another way right before I installed the backports driver, and I cannot believe what the cause was!

Ubuntu seems to have a problem with MAC address cloning. When I turned this option off, I was able to connect immediately without any problems. The MAC cloning feature is bugged.

I need help reporting this bug. In order for a bug on Launchpad to get triaged, I have to give the software package that is causing the bug. What is the software package responsible for allowing users to manage WiFi connections (and the MAC cloning feature)? I didn't install any replacement packages; I am simply using what Ubuntu provides by default.
