Ubuntu 12.04 definitely did that too. You must have disabled it some time in the last two years.
You can disable it again in Compizconfig-settings-manager.
But yes, 14.04 is excellent. Been running it on my netbook for a month or so, just upgraded my desktop. Apart from nouveau drivers crashing (which, unfortunately, is nothing new) and forcing me to install the Nvidia proprietary driver, I'm absolutely at home with 14.04. Love it.
I try to treat the cause, not the symptom. I avoid the terminal in instructions, unless it's easier or necessary. My instructions will work within the Ubuntu system, instead of breaking or subverting it. Those are the three guarantees to the helpee.
