How do you pronounce Lubuntu?

I hear what you are saying, he does pronouce it with longer sounds, maybe because he's old, maybe it's because he's Xhosa and not Zulu or maybe it's just the way he speaks. Listen to the interviewer Tim Modise pronounce it right at the beginning, short sounds, that is how most people here pronounce it. Come to think of it Madiba does have a very distinct way of speaking which is not common here, his voice is well recognised and almost a brand if i could call it that.

Then again I a also pronounce my friends wife's name, sharon, like ozzie ozzborn does it (deliberately) and it drives her up the wall

I guess I don't understand what you're talking about. Tim Modise sounds exactly the same, except the middle U isn't drawn out. I guess in my mind, I would pronounce it just like Tim Modise did, but spell it oo-boon-too because that's the only way I know to make a distinction between how it's supposed to be and how the 'u' sounds in "honey bun," which I think is the wrong way to pronounce it.

No matter what, we can all agree that it's annoying when people spell it "unbuntu," right?

Here in Tennessee we say "La-oo-buuhhhn-tuh-ooo", as in:

"I'm'a trai puttin' sum lubuntu that'ere trailah axle 'n' see if'n' that don't kill that squealin'"

Not if that is pronounced the way I have been pronouncing it or have heard it pronounced for the 40+ years since I learned German as a teenager. Most English speakers can't even pronounce ü correctly, since the lips form a what is in English an "oo" sound while the tongue forms what is in English an "e" sound..

Maybe U-Boot or U-Bahn... "oo" as in English, but shorter in duration.

I pronounce it as in the following German words:
