    Feedback on 14.04 LTS

Didn't see one so asking here. People using the new 14.04... How is it working out? Stable? Any recurring problems ( more annoyances than problems?)

I'm on Debian Testing now but there are a few things I love about Unity so am keen on this LTS but would hate to install it only to find that it's a mess right now.

    Re: Feedback on 14.04 LTS

Hardly a mess at all I ran it in the last 3 months development and it was very reliable and stable...I just did a clean install on the final release and it is also pretty rock solid, spiffy and fast...
It can only get even better as the updates start coming in but i wouldn't hesitate to install it now...

You could run it in live session and get a pretty good idea of what it will be like for your computer...though realizing of course, it will be faster on a hard install...

(I did not want to be too cheerful, but it's been beautifully running here since alpha )

    Re: Feedback on 14.04 LTS

If you have a large disk you may try what I do.

I have a 500GB disk. I have three primary 150GB partitions. First partition is Windows 7, second is the disro I use, and the third is the disro I want to try out. If everything works to my liking, I copy the things in /home I want to keep from the old distro to the new one. You can delete the old disro partition if you want; but you will need to update grub.

No matter what method you choose, do a backup of anything you want to keep.

Use whatever OS or desktop works for you. Dual boot or use VMs if you want. Backup your computer regularly, and definitely before upgrading, partitioning, or installing an OS.

No support requests by PM please.

    Re: Feedback on 14.04 LTS

I had a problem before the beta was released. And the installer couldn't decrypt my home directory, so I had to manually decrypt and backup my files and do a clean install.

But it has been absolutely rock-solid since beta. I wish Unity 8 was ready but ootherwiseI couldn't be happier.

I think it is very good (Ubuntu 14.04 LTS). The only issue I had was re-installing VMware 10.01. Turns out VMware already solved this problem by supplying version 10.02. Recall the old Dial commercial - "Aren't you glad you used Dial? Don't you wish everybody did?"

Aren't you glad that you use Ubuntu? Don't you wish everybody did?

    Re: Feedback on 14.04 LTS

I've done a system upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04... It took my system about an hour with the all downloads. So far everything looks good. I'm using IntelNUC DC32171YE with 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD.

Prt-scr doesn't work for hp netbook

guvcview video and audio out of sync

audacity no ffmpeg support (this should be major for Ubuntu studio)

webgl not working on Chrome for some intel gpu

    galternatives not work

    gdebi not pulling in dependencies.

boot-repair not work(ppa not set up yet)

lubuntu network manager mia (this concerns me because I am going to install lubuntu on someone's old XP machine)

There are reports that openvpn doesn't work, but haven't checked it yet. Will do that soon.

None of these problems exists in 13.10. It is just a partial list as I haven't done much with it. Just installed it in an external drive, do some basic things, file and add 'affect me too' for bugs and wait for updates. Good thing I haven't rushed to upgrade/reinstall. Early bird gets the bugs for OS releases.
