To know what firefox you are running :

Open Firefox, go to Help Menu and then select the last option ; About Firefox.
A small window should open with the version given.

The FFmpeg plugin for GStreamer 0.10 is not available in the official Ubuntu 14.04 repositories (because FFMpeg is not available either - libav is used instead) and because of this, Firefox doesn't support the H.264 codec.

    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mc3man/trusty-media
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg

    Maybe this will help
