    Upgrading to 14.04

Will you be posting an "OK" to upgrade to 14.04 statement and possibly a quick how to for that process?

If so, what kind of time frame will that take?

    Thanks,
    Ken

@cbtenger - Thank you for answering the howto part of kend6502's questions.

I am also curious to know if/when System76 will post an "OK to upgrade to 14.04" statement (as in the past) on this forum. Given the complications that can arise during an upgrade or new replacement-install process, that statement would ease my concerns as well as the concerns of others, I suspect.

I have Software & Updates set to "Notify Me of New Ubuntu Version". 14.04 now shows as of this morning.
They are also shipping their new computers with 14.04 installed.
You could also try a live DVD first.

+1 to live DVD/USB to confirm hardware compatibility.

It seems quite common for new Ubuntu versions to drop compatibiltiy with some hardware; Ubuntu no longer supports non-PAE machines for example and older video cards are dropped from time to time.

I would still welcome an "OK to upgrade" statement.

    Re: Upgrading to 14.04

Even with a statement saying it's OK, I usually hold out until near the end of support for a current release. This gives me
time run the live version a lot to test it on my computer before upgrading.

I fresh installed on my Gaz Pro 7 last night. Everything seems to be working that I use - Wireless, Wired Networking, eSATA, USB devices and drives, HP and Samsung Printers, SD card, HDMI for video and sound.

    Re: Upgrading to 14.04

I just upgraded my Lemur Ultra to 14.04. There were no issues with the upgrade process and after installing system76-driver and rebooting, as instructed in http://knowledge76.com/index.php/Version_Upgrade, everything seems to be working except, as noted in another thread, there is no sign of System 76 Driver under System Settings.

    Re: Upgrading to 14.04

I've done every upgrade from 11.10 -> 12.04 -> 12.10 -> 13.04 -> 13.10 -> 14.04 without any hardware support issues and without any showstopper breakages. I wouldn't get too stressed about upgrading unless you have particularly old hardware.

As others have said, if you are concerned:

    * always do a backup first

    * test using a live USB/DVD

Edit: The only significant breakage that I have had, which is somewhere between a minor annoyance and a showstopper, is Google Earth, which broke somewhere in that sequence of upgrades and remains broken.

    Re: Upgrading to 14.04

    Hello,

So, I have a gazp6 with Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and I would like to upgrade to 14.04 LTS. Upgrade manager wants me to go to 12.10. Do I have to go up one version at a time? The upgrade site (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/upgrade) only shows 13.10>14.04 and 12.04>12.10 also. Am I missing something?

    thanks,
