    Problem: In Trusty Audacity has been compiled without the Libav library that it can use for import and export. This is because Audacity no longer successfully compiles against more recent versions of Libav.

    Solution: It is possible to compile Audacity against a local installation of an older version of Libav and thus allow import and export of a greater range of audio media. A guide is being worked on to make the process a little less painful for Ubuntu users.

    Edit: The guide has appeared:

    Suspend / Resume: If using NVIDIA card, the Noveau driver did not resume from suspend. Changed to Proprietary NVIDIA driver and everything works great.
    Had problems with Nouveau and my display settings that disappeared once I went back to NVIDIA's driver.

    Same problem, different workaround.... install Chrome direct for Google. Do your own research as to the relative security of both.

    Clementine compiled without full text search in Ubuntu: this results in very slow library searches (so slow you may think Clementine has frozen). Workaround: use global search or install Clementine's own package for Trusty from https://www.clementine-player.org/downloads

    Problem: Fresh installation of Lubuntu 14.04 does not load menu or bottom panel after LightDM login.

    Solution: CTRL-ALT-F1, login
    Code:
    sudo apt-get install lxde razorqt
    sudo shutdown -r now

    Enable minimize application to panel without installing the CCSM in Unity.

    Code:
    gsettings set org.compiz.unityshell:/org/compiz/profiles/unity/plugins/unityshell/ launcher-minimize-window true

    When ripping dvd with handbrake Unity becomes very slow, so slow that it is completely unusable (takes almost a minute to move a window)
    work around: disable handbrake's tray icon (the pinenapple thing that tells you the progress of ripping on the top panel). After that everything is normal again.

    System continuously restarts after upgrading to 14.04 trusty, tried fresh install from a pen drive and results are the same.

    System ran fine on Ubuntu 13.10 for over 6 months
    Memory : 7.2 GB
    Processor : AMD A8-5500 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics × 4
    Graphics : VESA: DVST
    OS type : 64bit
    Disk : 110.1 GB

    No proprietary drivers are in use
    If I log in as a guest or even a newly created user it does the same thing, the only way I can stop the continuous restarting is to ctrl alt del and select adv user options/ recovery, but after the next restart the madness continues.
    Memory test passes with no errors, I disconected all drives other than O.S. solid state drive, disconnected all other accessories, keyboard, mouse, speakers, ethernet, everything one by one and restarted each time, with only ram and O.S. drive connected it still exhibits the same problem(continuous restart), it does appear to change the display resolution when restarting but no matter which resolution it sets, the results are the same, when starting in the safe graphics mode the results are the same.
    (it does the same thing when booting from a usb pen drive), freshly created boot ISO. with no other hardware connected and the memory passing full mem test without any errors, it really looks like some kind of hardware incompatibility bug with either my APU or SSD, the same newly created bootable pen drive works flawlessly on other computers.
    I did notice that if I play a youtube video when it boots, that will stop the system from restarting continuously.....

    This is definitely a bug, I don't know if it's related to the mainboard (MSI FM2-A75IA-E53), SSD(SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB SATA III TLC Internal Solid State Drive), or APU (AMD A8-5500 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics × 4 - Gallium 0.4 on AMD ARUBA ) (64-bit O.S.) that's causing it.

    Work around;
    Once I realized that simply playing video would circumvent this bug, I then looked for a way to implement a screen saver at startup, I came up with XWINWRAP / GWINWRAP.
    I installed XWINWRAP in terminal mode, then GWINWRAP and set it with a screensaver to run on startup, of course the screen saver stops as soon as you move the mouse, so it really has no ill effects and solves my problem while implementing a screensaver.

    GWINWRAP ---> https ://code.google.com/p/gwinwrap/

    XWINWRAP --> http ://tech.shantanugoel.com/resources/downloads/shantz-xwinwrap.zip
    This system ran perfectly without any issues on 13.10, the hardware has not changed and 14.04 trusty is not even compatible from a clean install because of this bug..., revert back to 13.10 and all is well, upgrade or attempt 14.04 trusty clean install and nothing works....,

    the above workaround fixed this bug for me.

    Problem: galternatives window fails to take any input.

    Solution:Create link in /usr/sbin to update-alternatives.
    Code:
    sudo ln -s /usr/bin/update-alternatives /usr/sbin/
