Minecraft doesn't render textures in Xubuntu 13.10

I know that my computer is capable of playing minecraft as it can play it in Windows XP but support on xp ended and I wanted to use Xubuntu for minecraft instead. It won't render any textures at all, the game is still functional and you can still see blocks with their outline but nothing is rendered with textures. But the player in the inventory is rendered properly and I don't know why. I have some screenshots but I don't want to go into xubuntu immediately this moment to retrive them.

What version of Java are you using? You might want to make sure you are using the most recent version of Java on your machine.

What kind of video card does this computer use? You might need proper drivers for it to work correctly.

Are you using an alternate texture pack?

13.04 is out of support. Better to begin with a clean install of 13.10 or 14.04.

No alternate texture packs, I have a old intel intergrated graphics chip that works fine with minecraft and openjdk 6

Are you using the built in Java that you install from the repositories? I have personally had issues with Minecraft running properly because of it. However if I use the vanilla straight from oracle Java it works great.

I was using the one from the repositories because I don't know how exactly to install oracles java. But I tried it before on other installs and it worked then but not now.

Also have to played with the video settings at all? Tried lowering quality, etc.
