12.04 LTS : Win7 alongside installation not possible

    Hi,

Ubuntu Installer (64bit) does not see my Windows 7, i.e. no option "Install alongside Windows 7" appears among the installation options.

I'd like to install Ubuntu on a partition (that does not yet exist), on the same disk with windows. The disk has plenty of available space, but its unallocated.
(Remark: Even if I wanted, I couldn't have formatted the partition from within Win 7 with ext4 file system, so...).

What am I to do ?

    Cheers,

    Mike

PS. I had no problem years ago to do this with Windows XP...

Boot using the Ubuntu install media. When you get to the desktop, open a terminal and enter "sudo fdisk -lu" (Lowercase L, not a one). That will list out the partitions and filesystems on the drive. Post that information back here so we can see it.
    Ubuntu 20.04, Mint 19.10; MS Win10 Pro.
Will not respond to PM requests for support -- use the forums.
