    Question Doubt about security

I just wondering which of the following needs no security? Why?
A server that carries a large amount of traffic.
A server that carries a low amount of traffic.
    A home machine.
    A server behind a firewall.

    Thanks

Perhaps you could rephrase your question so it doesn't seem so much like a homework question.

IMO all computing devices require some form of security. Even those not connected to the internet require some form of physical security.
The only totally safe device is one not connected to a power source

This is obviously a trick question. All devices require security. Apparently even your DVR.

I've been using vi for years, mostly because I can't figure out how to exit.

Too true. Fun to think how far technology has come when security wasn't even considered so long ago.

    Re: Doubt about security

“Heartbleed is further evidence that we don’t have our house in order when it comes to Internet security,” said Edward Felten, a computer security expert at Princeton University.

“There’s a level of care in designing systems and sweating the details of their operations that’s missing in the culture of software development,” Mr. Felten said. “We don’t have the kind of safety culture that is common in fields such as aviation.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/04/10/te...ss-secure.html

I'd trust Felten's judgement over most other observers except perhaps Bruce Schneier. The "Freedom to Tinker" blog Felten founded is an excellent resource as is Schneier on Security.
