Can connect using PuTTY but can't with PSFTP

Hey guys i am new to ubuntu and am having a lot of issues when trying to get PSFTP to connect to my ubuntu server i am running in virtual box.
I have open-ssh server and client installed on the server and can connect using PuTTY just fine but PSFTP keeps giving me the error "Connection Refused". When i check if the port is open it says it is and the service is running.
I really need help guys as this is sending me insane.

    Please help a newb

    Thanks in advance,
    Logan

Re: Can connect using PuTTY but can't with PSFTP

I assume you are using the PuTTY GUI but PSFTP is just a command-line client? (although I use PuTTY a lot I tend to use WinSCP for file transfer)

Can you post the command that you are using (you can obscure the host name / host IP)?

Are you using the default port?
