Thunderbird Headers pane takes too much space on a small screen

On my 8.9" netbook the headers pane (to and from and subject) takes up too much room. The area for the emai is less than one third of the small screen. I have on another computer used an add on that made this smaller but it dow not seem to work with TB28 which is on this small netbook.

Any ideas to get more email area?
Using POP!_OS 20.04, which is basically Ubuntu 20.04 with some help from System76.

Try using the Display the Thunderbird Menu button on the right hand side,
particularly the topics under Preferences; most things can be unticked to remove them
and also double clicking on a email should open it in a new tab that has no to/from lists or folder pane.
