    Playing a DVD

It used to be so simple. I'd insert a DVD into my Windows 7 Compaq Presario drive, & away it would play, no bother at all. That was before my hard drive crashed & I installed another, & decided to see what this Ubuntu was like. LibreOffice is quite straightforward, as are most other things, but getting a DVD to play is another matter entirely!. I've got VLC Media Player, SMPlayer, XBMC Media Center & none of them seem to play my commercial DVDs. Can anybody give me some simple non-geeky advice please & restore my faith in Ubuntu.

    Re: Playing a DVD

Just noticed that although I can now play commercial DVDs with all the apps that I have previously mentioned,
I still can't play holiday DVDs I have burned myself on a desktop PC (Windows 7).
Before I mark this thread as solved, anybody got any solution for this problem.
    Thanks in anticipation.
