Any thoughts on how storing thumbnails on the same filesystem as the files they serve as icons for could be implemented in a gnu/linux system? Either the Windows way of putting them in a file in the same directory, or the way most (all?) 'nix file browsers now do Trash, with a seperate bin for each partiton (or more than one bin on some partitions, depending - but in any case, at least one for each partition so that "trashing" files doesn't require copying them to a physically different location).

Would this be a matter of editing source code for the file browser or is there an easier way? I've had the idea of trying that with Thunar anyway because there are some things about the context menus I'd like to change. Not sure how difficult that would be but trying is usually the best way to find out. But I have no desire to invent a wheel that somebody already has rolling somewhere.
