Urban Terror

I think ubuntu doesn't require any firewall. If you do not have to use it - do not use, if you have to... do some research on urban terror website or forum.

I did the registeration sucessfully.
But now face a different problem.
When I switch off the firewall UT can access the list of servers else it can not.
Which protocol / port do I need to open ?
Or is there any other way round ?

what firewall do you have installed? UFW? or are you just using IP tables?

check their website to see which port they are using (i can't access it from work to help you) and then open the required port.

I use UFW. and still could not figure out the port used by them. I opend a port suggested by some one but it worked only for a few servers but did not provide the entire list of servers that I get when I switch off the firewall.

I solved the firewall problem but am facing a different problem now.
Every time after playing UT if I check the system monitor I do not find any thing abnormal but when I restart the computer and again check the system monitor I find that the CPU is being used too much. Usually atleast one core runs on 100% and then when I check the processes I find that the Quake server is running. If I have to kill that process, I need root permission. After killing that process my CPU usage goes down to about 3 to 5 %.

Why is it happening and what can I do to stop it from happening every time ?

This is a little off topic but isnt urban terror a linux game in the first place ? If so how hard is it to make a server? Reason im asking this is i have less than 3 weeks to build a game server i orginally went with Counter Strike but it seems Linux hates Counter Strike and most of the packages r missing and no longer easily found i am running ubuntu 12.04 lts and ive had more issues then carter has liver pills. So i am asking this because ive been thinking of using Urban Terror as a replacment model for Counter strike to get thru this game server part


Any Advice or what not would be greatly appericatated thanks =)

Urban Terror runs in Linux WITHOUT WINE. Wondering why it was moved to the WINE section?
