how to install a gnome theme?

Ok so I looked online and found a lot of threads where people asked this but I just don't get how they did that. I have Ubuntu 13.04 and I have a theme called eOS gnome theme that I want to install and use. I think I have installed it because the article that I followed told me that it was installed. What I have to do is install the gnome theme extensions. Even if I install them, I will not be able to apply them because in my Gnome tweaker tool, I have everything except for when I go to the shell extensions section, it is just a blank screen. I have attached a screenshot so you guys can see. Please help me!

Shell Extensions means nothing to the ability to change themes.

If you want to change to your new theme, then double click on the downloaded zip
(I presume it's a zip, or something like that)
Then when archive manager opens, hit extract, then in the main window,
right click and select show-hidden files and folders.

Now scroll down f you see an entry for .themes shows up.
If yes, click this one to open it up.
If no, go to the top right corner and select new folder.
(When making the new folder, name it .themes. Do Not Forget about the Dot.)

Now make sure you move into the .themes folder and then click Extract.

Once the files are extracted, go to the section in gnome-tweak-tool for theme.
Your theme should now be listed.

If you also, while your at it, want to see what extensions there are go here
    https://extensions.gnome.org/

    Hope something here helps you.

Re: how to install a gnome theme?!?!

Slightly off-topic, but you realise 13.04 is no longer supported? Your problem might be resolved by installing a supported release which gets updates. At the moment you would be getting none, and that would mean security updates also, so your machine will not be up to date which may prevent some solutions working. Beside this, the lack of security updates means your machine becomes more vulnerable to security breaches.

Ok so let's say I install the theme right now and than I update. Will that theme transfer over to 13.10 if the theme is supported by 13.10?

Thank you for your reply. The theme I found (eOS) is only listed on this one website and this website only shows me how to install the theme by command line. Can you please show me how to install this theme by command line because I cannot find a .zip for this theme.

Firstly, +1 to what Bucky Ball stated and upgrade to a supported version of Ubuntu.
(Somehow, I knew that but forgot to mention it)

Secondly, did the website give you an idea as to what the command would be?
    (We are not mind readers)
If yes, maybe post what directions it gave.
If no, maybe post a link to the websites page, so other might have an idea of what you are meaning/talking about.

ok nevermind I found the link. But when I go to change it this little triangle comes up and says "could not list shell extensions"

    I posted an attached screenshot.

shell extensions and shell themes are completely different things.
If you go to the link I provided in post #2, you can see the various extensions for gnome shell.
The fun part is, you can enable them right on the web page.

I've never added a shell theme, so don't know what you need to do.

You're much better to go the other way around, that's just my point. Upgrade first then install the theme. You may have less or no issues or different issues altogether.
