The easiest way would be to change the SSO preferred email address to the account @yahoo.co.nz that you used to register the account. After that is done, this account can be disassociated from your SSO, and your next login should reconnect you with your old account. If that account is no longer accessible, there are other options.

when I try to change my email address to that account I get a message which says
vBulletin Message

The email address you entered is already in use. If you have forgotten your password, please click here.

Are you trying to change the email at https://login.ubuntu.com/ (SSO) or here at the forum?
It needs to be changed at SSO (preferred email address)

still hasn't worked...I change my username on SSO and delete the old account but still appear under this alias

I will disassociate this account. IF you have the SSO preferred email to the one used to register sub_acoustic , your next login should re-link you with that account.
