I know there are different desktop environments. Is there separate terminal commands for each desktop environmet or same for all? What is the difference?

Hi Nayab Basha Sayed.
All terminals run bash these days, so inside the terminal it's all the same. The terminal window may have different options like custom colors, and backgrounds.
AFAIK, there's a definitive guide to all Linux desktop environments. There are lots of them. Among the most popular are Unity, Gnome, KDE, Xfce and LXDE.
Here's a few articles you may find useful:
- Linux Users Have a Choice: 8 Linux Desktop Environments
- Comparison of X Window System desktop environments
- Desktop environments (Arch Wiki)
Hope it helps. Let us know how it goes.
Regards.
here are my 2cents: http://www.engadget.com/2012/11/30/h...ment-in-linux/
I didn't mean to... for the record I used to run tcsh back in the days of Ultrix and SunOS 4.1.2
Regards.
Some terminal commands may be different but only because they involve running programs that come with one desktop but not another.
The underlying linux system is the same. Unlike windows, in linux/unix the desktop GUI is just another bit of application software.
For example, anything to do with hardware configuration involves the kernel. It's the same thing in all ubuntu desktops.
