I just bought a Toshiba Satellite C55D laptop (the exact one at the link) with Windows 8 preinstalled. I am trying to install Ubuntu 13.10. I set up the bios to allow booting from cd/dvd and/or flash drive. When booting from a live USB it lets me choose from the usual options. If I say install, the ubuntu loading screen comes up and then my screen goes black and the computer becomes unresponsive. If I say try without installing then it loads a tty prompt but just lists the starting of a bunch of processes on the gui (ctrl+alt+F7). The only one that says it failed is "Restore Sound Card State"
My question: is this a problem with the graphics card in the laptop (its an AMD Radeon HD 8330)? If so, is there any way to fix it or another distro that supports this card? If not, how can I fix this problem?
Thank you!
