CD Projekt RED Considering The Witcher 3 For Linux If SteamOS Takes Off

Source. I am kind of torn on whether this is good news or bad news. I mean, yes, Linux support for The Witcher 3 will come if SteamOS takes off, but what's holding back Linux support right now is a myth.

Let me play devils advocate here. We all know ubuntu is going down the MIR path (not the community spins) so you will only be using the opensource drivers and not the proprietary drivers, these are not good enough for gaming period. Everybody else is adopting Wayland and if nvidia & amd are gonna possibly support any of these platforms in the future they are gonna go where the majority goes which is Wayland. So if gaming is your goal you would have to use something other than Ubuntu. I suspect this is also one of the reasons besides legal issues, & stability as to why valve chose debian after making ubuntu their official support platform initially.

I play both Witchers, 1 & 2, with PlayOnLinux. Nonetheless, I would love to play The Wild Hunt natively.

I drink my Ubuntu black, no sugar.

To be fair, AMD's open source drivers are improving rapidly and are quite capable of gaming. AMD does employ half a dozen people to work on it after all. What's more, Intel only has open source drivers, so there's that.
