Hello, Robin,
Those PPA's were:
http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu main
http://ppa.launchpad.net/xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10/ubuntu main (Source Code)
I disabled them and reloaded--/user/share/backgrounds/xfce remains the same.
Thanks for the thought, though!
Thanks for these--but they are the same as those in (X)ubuntu 12.04.4, xfce4.10. So apparently the artwork I'm looking for is in the previous version of either Xubuntu or Xfce (i.e. after Ubuntu 12.04 but before 12.04.4; or after Xfce4 but before 4.10? Thanks again for your time.

Hello Again PQ,
But no. Actually, I've found a screenprint of the background I'm looking for--maybe that'll simplify things.
Thanks again for your continued attention!

noted that the wallpaper name is "xfce-stripes.png", (see last comment on the page)
but I think the wallpaper "xfce-stripes.png" now has checkers on it.
You might try the xfce forum itself

Wow--nice detective work! I Ixquicked 'xfce-stripes.png' and found it at once (it appears to be montone, but close enough)--thanks a million!
You might try changing the wallpaper color, saturation and brightness by right clicking on desktop settings
and playing around with the settings until you get it the way you want.
Then, you can add it to your background list.
