    3.14-rc1 has arrived

Didn't quite work out. with the usual commands.

Based my .config on /boot/config-3.13.0-999-lowlatency (haven't tried the standard one yet).

    Code:
    ...LD [M] net/netfilter/nf_conntrack.o

    Re: 3.14-rc1 has arrived

Ok, well that worked (except no go with nvidia-304):

    Code:
    paul@trusty-64:~$ uname -a
    Linux trusty-64 3.14.0-031400rc1-generic #201402022035 SMP Mon Feb 3 01:37:33 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
    paul@trusty-64:~$
    That's it for tonight!

    Cheers,

    Paul

Well, drat! I just did a fresh install.

Oh, well. What's the point, of it all, if everything_just_works?!?!?

Does anybody knows if this kernel works with the 331.38 nvidia drivers?

Sorry have only been able to try with the legacy driver on this box (nvidia-304) which doesn't work so back to nouveau for now. Other than that, working ok with the low latency config after I stripped out the wireless stuff which I don't need anyway.

    Code:
    paul@trusty-64:~$ uname -a
    Linux trusty-64 3.14.0-rc1-custom-low-latency #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Feb 3 21:44:15 GMT 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Tried the generic here and all is good on a Intel system.

    Code:
    sam@samL650:~$ uname -r
    3.14.0-999-generic
    sam@samL650:~$

Out of curiosity, by stripping the useless wireless stuff you meant the crda package?
If yes, how did you manage that?
In my trials, removing crda removes also the kernel image.

Sorry for any confusion. I wasn't talking about removing packages. What happened was, when I was configuring the vanilla kernel I downloaded last night from kernel.org before compiling it I think I inadvertently enabled a new wifi-related option which is what led to the build failure. It was very late then and shortly after that the generic ubuntu debs happened to appear in ppa kernel mainline. So I was able to install those without a hitch except for the nvidia driver failing to build and I called it a night.

Then today I reconfigured the vanilla kernel again (making sure not to accept the new wireless option) and I also disabled any other wifi-related stuff before compiling again and then it was all fine.

    HTH.
