Hi,
I have an Asus motherboard M5A97 R2.0 with an onboard Realtek networkchip RTL1111/R8168/8411:
Code:
inxi -Nn
Network: Card-1: Realtek RTL8169 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller
IF: N/A state: N/A speed: N/A duplex: N/A mac: N/A
Card-2: Realtek RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver: r8168
IF: eth0 state: up speed: 100 Mbps duplex: full mac: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
As you can see the speed of Card-2 is 100 mbps even though the card is a Gigabit card. The same happens when I connect the cable to Card-1.
This happens with every OS I have installed, or used in a live CD version.
My network contains only 1Gbps devices like the router and switches.
Now the strange thing: in virtual machines, using VirtualBox, I do get the 1Gbps connection, showing the card itself can handle it and so can my network. I have seen this in Windows 7, but also in several Linux distro's.
Linux Mint 16 KDE-64 in a virtual machine:
Code:
inxi -N
Network: Card: Intel 82540EM Gigabit Ethernet Controller driver: e1000
As host I use also Mint16 KDE-64, so it is the same OS.
Can it be the driver, is it possible to use a driver for the Intel 82540 Ethernet controller like in the VM?
If so, how to install that one?
Who can help me?
