    screensaver not working on unity

I saw another similar posting but it was related to xcf4 which is not my case, so I'll describe my issue.

I'm running on a Dell M90 a fresh install of 13.10 using Unity. Everything seems fine except for an issue. Even with the setting of having the screensaver dimming the screen after 10 min. of inactivity (locking not enabled), the screen never goes dark. Is this a bug and if so, is there a work around to fix it? Also something strange to me is that when the update icon appears and click on it, it doesn't ask me for my password like in previous versions.

    Thanks.

Am I the only one with this problem?

I found a solution myself: switched from lightgdm to gdm, rebooted and switched back from gdm to lightgdm and rebooted. Blanking the screen after the specified time works now. Don't ask me why because I have no clue.
