Cannot view scanned images from other application than XSane

Hi,

I scanned some pages with XSane through an HP Scanjet G4010 in multipage mode. All seems to be right, I can see the preview image, edit the images from XSane, etc... but when I want to export images to a PDF file, a document with only images of noise is generated). The same issue trying to export to PostScript file.

I try to open the pnm files from other applications (like GIMP, ImageMagick, ImageViewer,...) without success (the image of noise appears like image below).

For a few years I used XSane but experienced some problems occasionally. Sometimes it would produce a partial image but the rest would be grey. About 18 months ago I changed to Simple Scan and it works really well. It allows you to save a scanned image as a *.pdf, *.jpg or *.png file. You can install it via the Software Center or via Synaptic.
