Java version 7 update 51.2 is now available

The latest Java version 7 update 51.2 is now available.
The link to Check Java version is in my signature.
For Ubuntu, download the Linux version for 32 bit machines or the Linux x64 version for 64 bit machines.
The .RPM version is for other Linux Distros.
Choose "save file" when prompted and then the instructions to install it are in the other link in my signature Manually update Java.
The How to link is Oracle (Sun) Java JRE for Ubuntu, Linux Mint and Debian.
Just open up a terminal and copy and paste the commands.
The instructions have been updated to 10.51.2 so you just have to copy and paste.
For 32 bit the instructions are on the left and for 64 bit the instructions are on the right.
It will tell you to remove any older version first and provides instructions for doing so.
This method also removes the IcedTea Java-plug-in

This is intended for those who prefer the CLI method of updating Java.

When you get it installed and restart Firefox open a tab and enter:

    Code:
    about:plugins
    It should show this:
    Java(TM) Plug-in 10.51.2

You would think they would call it version 10 update 51.2.
These 2 links can be used in the future for new updates.

Not sure what other browsers this works for but Firefox and Chromium are both updated with this method.

You are correct this is not a support request. I put it in Installation & Upgrades.

That is sort of ironic. This is the 24th thread I have made alerting people that a newer version of Java was released with instructions on how to install it and it has always gone in Installation & Upgrades.

Did something change recently that I am unaware of? Because that is where is would seem logical to put it. As a matter of fact I am pretty sure I initially put this in General Help and it was moved to Installation & Upgrades.

    Regards

It would have been posted that it was moved by the staff member that moved it. Please read:

    This is not a question.

All the more reason to keep your Java up to date and make sure you get rid of older versions as they pose security threats as well.

I noticed the other day that there was an update on my windows 7 system. I installed the update and Sun is generous enough to provide windows with a tool to remove old versions.
It found and removed an older version which I didn't think to look for.

That caught me eye and I checked on Ubuntu and there was a newer version. I had been connecting my phone via wifi and it uses java. I was getting some strange things happening before I updated to the latest version.

This method with Ubuntu removes the previous version as the first step then it adds the new version. It updates Firefox and Chromium.
