access host netwrok

I have recently installed ubuntu as a guest in virtualbox, running in windows 8
Initially you could access all host network drives, was great.
Now it does not see them.
I can still work around by using a shared drive as a link, but used to be so much more convenient

So you can't access things on the network anymore?
What do you have the adapter set to in virtualbox settings? Bridged mode is what I've used for all my virtual machines
Are you getting an IP address from your gateway? Can you ping other devices on the network?
