    Lubuntu 13.10 + Graphics problems

    Hi I got the same problem over here. I have installed lubuntu 13.10 when I try to start half life or Counter strike over steam i just get a strange looking screen, its like everything is there but all is blackish.

    sylvester_007: Please don't hijack someone else's thread. The hardware specific to the original machine is critical in diagnosing and repairing the problem. Adding your machine to the "mix" is only going to make the situation confusing and harder to solve. Please start your own thread.

    Intel integrated graphics is not the best for laptop gaming. My laptop has i7-4700MQ (8 threads) with 64-bit Ubuntu 13.10. While I have not tried HL2 or CS:S on it yet, TF2 (which uses the HL2 engine) using its Intel HD 4600 graphics does not have your darkness issue, but it is very slow and audio repeats in short loops (basically unplayable). Although, I had relatively high graphic settings for TF2 and did not try toning it down, because I normally play on a 12.04 desktop with nvidia GTX 550 Ti.

    Fortunately that laptop also has nvidia GTX 765M graphics, which once I figured out TF2 launch parameters for optirun to use the nvidia graphics, works fine (smoothly).

    While I do not have any computers with only modern Intel graphics, so I cannot say if that works any better than dual graphics with a faster sister chip, you are likely to be disappointed gaming if Intel graphics is all it has.
